On 7th March 2015 Sara Walsh, Director, was part of the team that brought the global phenomenon, Diner en Blanc, to Melbourne.

The annual secret affair, was an unforgettable evening of elegance, beauty and magic, and the location was revealed only upon arrival. Over 1000 foodies and cultural enthusiasts dressed in white attended the secret location.

True to tradition, bystanders witnessed groups of 100 to 300 people gather at specific rallying points across the city before converging by bus or on foot, on the secret location, outside the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre. Guests dressed elegantly in white, from head to toe, bringing their own epicurean feasts, tables, chairs, fine china, silverware and white tablecloths. Over the course of the evening, the diners ate and celebrated amid live music and dancing, complete with festive white balloons. Visually breathtaking moments included the waving of a cloth napkin to mark the beginning of the dinner, as well as the lighting of sparklers to let participants know they were now free to circulate, mingle and dance. When the trumpet call sounded at the end of the evening guests packed up their crystal, dinnerware and tables, picked up all their rubbish and headed into the night, leaving behind no sign of their elegant revelry.

This year, DÎner en Blanc will take place in 50 cities around the world. If you are interested in joining Dîner en Blanc®’s guests in Melbourne in 2016, you can register via http://melbourne.dinerenblanc.info/register as space is limited.
